Shopify's default toolkit covers a lot — right up until it doesn't. Discount logic the native rules can't express. A Storefront API-powered custom frontend. A metafield-driven data model no App Store plugin quite fits. Checkout customisation that has to go through Shopify Functions properly, not a deprecated checkout.liquid hack held together with hope. That's the work that needs a developer inside the platform's APIs — not a theme customiser working around them.

Do you build custom Shopify apps, or just customise existing ones?
Both, but custom app and API work is where I actually specialise — private or public apps built against the Admin and Storefront GraphQL APIs, Shopify Functions for checkout and discount logic, and integrations with real authentication behind them, not a plugin bolted on and hoped for.
Do you work with Sydney businesses in person or remotely?
Mostly remote. I'm Sydney-based (AEST), and Shopify development suits async work anyway — scoped tickets, code review, staged deploys. That's how good dev work happens whether I'm in the room or not. An in-person session for initial scoping is on the table for a bigger custom build.
Is this a fit if we already have a theme developer or agency?
Yes — that's a common setup, and a good one. The theme and design side stays with them. The API, custom app, and Shopify Functions work — the stuff that needs a developer, not a theme editor — is what gets handed to me.
