About Alex

The Short Version
I've spent 10+ years fixing broken tech for businesses that had no business being as broken as they were. I started as a do-it-all generalist — a bit of everything, wherever the fire was — and since 2019 I've worked as a solution architect, designing systems end-to-end instead of just patching the part that's smoking.
That whole-system view is the point: I don't just fix APIs, I make the tech behind a business actually work — the AI, the automations, the operations, the platforms underneath it all. Ecommerce platform engineering is my strong suit — high-volume order pipelines, multi-carrier shipping and rate shopping, marketplace-carrier-3PL integration — but it's one pillar of a broader practice, not the whole pitch.
I built SKUNK//SYSTEMS because I kept seeing the same problem — good people, good products, completely overwhelmed by the technology that was supposed to help them. No suits. No buzzwords. Just real solutions that actually work.
How I Think
Most tech fixes patch the symptom — a script here, a bandaid API call there — and the problem just resurfaces somewhere else. A solution architect's job is to fix the system, not just the broken part: understand why it broke, how it connects to everything around it, and build something that stays fixed.
That whole-stack view is exactly why the work spans IT, AI, and operations rather than staying in one API or one platform. You can't design a system that holds together if you only ever look at one corner of it.
What I Work On
AI & Automation: LLMs and AI put to real work, not demos. Automation pipelines built on n8n and Make, agents and workflows that kill the manual busywork.
Business Operations & Systems: Process design, systems that scale, killing the spreadsheet-and-prayer stack, getting your tools to actually talk to each other.
Ecommerce Platform Engineering (the strong suit): High-volume order pipelines, multi-carrier shipping and rate shopping, marketplace-carrier-3PL integration, Shopify GraphQL, webhook-driven fulfilment.
And the glue between them: most of the value is in the integration — making AI, operations, and ecommerce systems work as one thing instead of three.
How I Work
Hands-on: You talk to the person actually doing the work — no account managers, no hand-offs.
Fixed-scope: Scoped and quoted up front, not billed by the hour. You know what you're paying before I start.
No agency overhead: Just me, which means lower cost and a straight line from problem to fix.
Sydney, AEST + remote: Based in Sydney, working with clients across Australia and remote-friendly clients worldwide.
Plain English: No suits, no buzzwords — I'll tell you what's actually wrong and what it'll take to fix it.
