n8n Consultant in Melbourne

n8n is powerful and self-hostable, which is exactly why it's so easy to set up badly. A single container with no backups. Workflows nobody but the person who built them can read. A webhook that quietly stops firing three weeks after launch and nobody notices until a customer does.

I need local support with…

  • Self-hosted n8n set up properly, with backups, updates, and monitoring — not just switched on and left
  • Migrating off Zapier or Make.com without breaking what already works
  • Workflows that keep running, instead of failing silently with nobody the wiser
  • A straight answer on whether self-hosted n8n is actually cheaper than the SaaS bill

n8n's appeal is obvious once a SaaS automation bill starts climbing: self-hosted, source-available, no per-task pricing. Here's the part nobody mentions in the pitch — "self-hosted" means someone has to actually own the hosting, the updates, the credential storage, the failure handling. A lot of n8n instances get stood up once, run fine until they don't, and by the time they break there's nobody left who actually understands the workflow logic underneath.

The job breaks into three bits: setup and migration — a properly hosted instance, sane environment separation, credentials handled correctly; workflow building — the actual automation logic, error branches included, not just the happy path; and the ongoing reliability side — retries, alerting when something fails, workflows built so the next change doesn't need archaeology first. Where it's a genuine fit, moving off a per-task SaaS bill onto self-hosted n8n saves real money. Where it isn't, I'll say that too.

Based in Sydney (AEST). I work with Melbourne businesses remotely across Australia — async-first — with in-person scoping available where it genuinely helps.

Questions

Can you migrate our existing Zapier or Make.com workflows to n8n?

Yes — that's the most common starting point I see. Most Zapier/Make workflows translate cleanly enough to n8n's node structure. The actual work is the parts that don't map one-to-one, and making sure nothing quietly breaks on the way across.

Do you work with Melbourne businesses in person or remotely?

Mostly remote, async-first, and easy on Melbourne time zone — I'm Sydney-based (AEST), an hour ahead, which barely counts as a gap. In-person scoping in Melbourne is on the table for bigger migration or infrastructure work.

Is self-hosted n8n actually cheaper than Zapier or Make?

Often, especially once workflow volume climbs — but not automatically, and I won't pretend otherwise. Hosting, maintenance, and someone's time to keep it reliable are real costs too. Part of the first conversation is being straight about whether the switch actually pays off for your workload, not just assuming it does.
